This article outlines the steps to transfer or replace the freewheel and brake rotor on the Revv 1 once the rear wheel is removed. If you haven't removed the rear wheel yet, please visit Revv 1 Rear Wheel Removal.

Step 1: Remove Brake Rotor

Remove the brake rotor first to prevent damage. There are 6 T25 (Torx) bolts holding it on.

Slide the rotor up and off, being careful with the motor cable and avoiding contact with the braking surface.

Rotor orientation

Note the rotor orientation: the side with writing faces outward. Eyelets circled in red are flush outward and slightly protrude on the wheel-facing side.

Step 2: Remove Washer from the Old Wheel

Remove this washer and set it aside; it is located further back inside the freewheel and is easy to miss.

Step 3: Remove the Freewheel

You will need a "Shimano style" freewheel removal tool. We recommend the Park Tool FR1.3. Use an adjustable wrench or 1" socket to turn counterclockwise, bracing the wheel on the ground for leverage.

Step 4: Remove Spacers

Remove the two spacers beneath the freewheel. Remember the positions: the thicker spacer rests closest to the freewheel.

Step 5: Reinstall Freewheel

Reinstalling the freewheel is similar to removal. Grease the new part (or clean and regrease if transferring/maintaining). Any automotive grease will work.

If using a torque wrench, tighten to 40nm. If you don't have a torque wrench available, tighten until the wrench doesn't turn anymore (use moderate-firm pressure). Replace the washer from Step 2.

Step 6: Reinstall Brake Rotor

You will want to tighten the bolts in a cross pattern so that every bolt gets equal torque.

Start with #1 and go in the above order. Insert all bolts until they're barely hand tight.

Once these steps are complete, you are ready to reinstall your wheel.
